How to Search WOS: Cited Reference Search
Click on
.
To search for articles that have cited a particular author, enter the cited author's last name then the initials. It is advisable to enter just the first initial followed by an asterisk. For example to find what are the articles that have cited any work by Sow CH, enter Sow CH* in the Cited Author search box. Click here for an example for searching citing reference for a patent document.

Please take note that:
- You can only search for cited references by using the first author if the article has not been indexed by ISI in its citation indexes.
- You can only search for cited references by using the second or third authors, only if the article has been indexed by ISI and published on or after 1988. E.g. Sow CH 's article in Phy Rev B 1998 can be retrieved when searching by cited author Sow CH even though he is not the first author as it is indexed by ISI.
Click on the View record its full record display in WOS.
The numbers on the left column indicates the total number of citation that have cited the reference since its publication date.
Please take note that:
For example, the article by Sow CH published in APPL PHYS LETT 1990 has been cited 11 times. If you select this and click on
, the results would list all the 11 citing articles.
If an article is published in 1970, the results would list those citing articles published from 1980 only. This is because the results is dependent on the NUS Libraries subscription for each database.
The second column gives the name of the first listed cited author, if there is ... preceeding the author name this means he is could be the second or third author of the article.
The references that are highlighted in blue indicated that it is also indexed as a record in the years and database that you have selected.
The next few columns gives you the journal abbreviation, volume, pagination and the year for each reference. Move the mouse over View Record and the title of the article will appear in a pop up window.

, if you are quite sure that all the references listed are works by the same author. Otherwise, select the required references by checking the box to the left of each choice.
Click on
, to run a search on all the references you have selected.
The results listed would be those years included in the NUS Libraries Subscription. Click on the title to view the full record of a reference citing Sow CH

Click on Cited References to see the references used in this article and you will see Sow, CH in the list.
