Citation Styles

Once you have found materials for your topic, you will need to cite the materials you used to write your paper and compile a bibliography.

Check Understanding Citations if you have difficulty reading the citations. Remember to check Using References found at the back of each relevant item.

Find out the citation style that your department or lecturer prefers. Once you have determined the style to follow, use it consistently in your paper and bibliography.

Some well-known citation styles are:

Chicago/Turabian

American Chemical Society (ACS)

American Medical Association (AMA)

American Psychological Association (APA)

American Sociological Association (ASA)

Harvard Style

Legal Style

Modern Language Association (MLA)
